Are These Codes Crazy, or am I?

As if dealing with decision support systems in healthcare, coding, billing, and the patients themselves wasn’t enough, healthcare providers now have to prepare themselves for the switch to ICD-10, the new medical coding system. While most people aren’t too happy about the change, others are simply shocked at some of the “crazy codes” that actually exist under ICD-10.

One code that has people half-laughing and half-crying, for example, is the special code used for those who have experienced burns due to water skis that have caught fire. How likely is that to happen? There are also codes for those who fall into buckets of water, for people who get trapped inside refrigerators, and for people who are injured by their in-laws.

Sound crazy? Well, no matter how nuts you think these new codes are, they’re for real, and, by all accounts, will soon be here to stay. Prepare yourself by brushing up on the codes and implementing strategies to make utilizing decision support systems in healthcare easier. You can also get ahead of the curve by taking advantages of helpful medical billing apps, like the one available at DeductorMD.com.

If you are a healthcare clinician, are you using todays new healthcare app for Medical Decision Making, DeductorMD?
